Eugene Skydivers SignEugene Skydivers is located in Criswell, Oregon not far from I-5.  Urban had a Cessna 182, a carpeted hangar, and the CLEANEST port-a-potties we'd ever seen! When we arrived, Urban gave us our waivers and inspected our gear.

When he saw my reserve repack card, he noticed that it was packed by Jim Crouch and commented about it. Almost everyone we meet knows Jim.  This isn't surprising since he's the Director of Safety and Training for the USPA, However to us, he's just Jim.

I have to mention the port-a-potties again. Normally, I list these as a "Con" in my reviews, but these were cleaner than 80% of the real bathrooms I've used. Absolutely no cobwebs, grasshoppers or other critters crawling around and they had hand sanitizer!

While we were getting ready, Urban went to get fuel. When he got back, I ask him how much we owed him. He told me we could discuss payment when we landed. The idea of paying afterward scared me a little. He could charge whatever he wanted.

Prior to boarding the plane, we went over to see the landing area - located across the runway. As we were walking, Urban told me that he wanted the shirt I was wearing as payment in lieu of money. I was wearing a Skydive Orange Sisters In Skydiving shirt which was soiled with sweat.

Urban on PlaneI didn't know what to say. My Shirt? It was 102 degrees! Why on earth would he want my shirt? Not only was it sweaty, it had some blood on it from a mosquito I killed and some mayo from the sandwich I ate while I was driving. It was gross!

What he said next, made me chuckle. "You don't have to take it off in front of me." Of course, Matt said I should just give him my shirt, but I was on the fence.

Back at the hangar, we geared up and got on the plane. We told Urban we just wanted a low pass (we'd already taken up so much of his time), but Urban took us to 8,000 and gave us a flight seeing tour of the area. The ride to altitude was scenic and Urban pointed out the local landmarks. Matt climbied out and I followed.  As we left together, I waived goodbye to Urban.

Being above the drop zone gave me a better view of the landing area. It's amazing how close this place is to the interstate!  I followed Matt's pattern and landed next to the fence near the exit and we walked back to the hangar.

Matt, Urban & SarahWhile we were packing, Urban suggested that we take the McKenzie Pass in the Cascade mountains. We'd be able to see lava rocks on the way to Idaho. It would put us about 30 minutes out of the way, but he assured us it would be worth the extra driving. He even gave us a map!

Another gentleman was walking past the hangar and I asked him to take a picture of us. As you can see, Urban and I have become fast friends! Oh...and I gave him a clean t-shirt out of my suitcase and promised to have a custom Pink Mafia Sisters shirt made for him.

What a great experience we had at Eugene Skydivers! Not getting to jump at Skydive Oregon gave us an opportunity to see more of the state and to meet Urban. Yay for Federal Express delays!
